Join us at the closing night and the Australian premiere of LEAVE NO TRACES, Poland’s submission to the 94th Academy Awards.

In an Australian premiere, we will screen Poland’s submission to the 94th Academy Awards and winner of the Premio Bisato d’Oro critics’ award for best picture at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. Based on the best-selling book, LEAVE NO TRACES is a poignant picture of injustices of the communist era in Poland, depicting true events that shook the nation in early 1980s.

Jurek Popiel, the only witness to the murder of his friend Grzegorz Przemyk, the son of opposition poet Barbara Sadowska, decides to fight for justice and testify against the repressive state militia responsible for his death. Once the matter is picked up by international media and twenty thousand people march in the streets of Warsaw behind Przemyk’s coffin, the authorities decide to use all available means against the witness to clear the state’s responsibility for the crime.

"Icy political thriller that envelops the viewer bit by bit and never lets go… "  The title alludes to the perfect work of the agents, who hit without leaving traces. But the film also does its job well. And it is just the opposite."
— Tommaso Koch, El Pais

"Matuszynski confirms himself as one of the most interesting directors of the new Polish cinema. Shot with a hand-held camera that is constantly attached to the characters, “Leave No Traces” is a strong indictment that brings to life with great realism a highly dramatic period." — Andrea Chimento, Il Sole 24 Ore

"The film is undeniably a tour de force in execution… The story’s outcome undeniably hits hard, and viewers worldwide will appreciate the evident parallels with the deaths of George Floyd and other victims of police brutality worldwide.." .
— Jonathan Romney, Screen International
