Father and son. Years of silence. One unforgettable road trip. After years apart, a Greek father and his Polish-Greek son meet again to settle the inheritance. Instead, they find themselves on an unexpected journey into their shared past. Told with humour, raw tenderness and understated emotional power, the film is a poignant road movie about finding your way home, both geographically and emotionally.
After years of silence and separation, a Greek father and his Polish-Greek son meet in Athens following the death of the woman who connected them. Both at a turning point in their lives, they travel together to Poland to settle the affairs of the family apartment. Driving an old Polonez across Europe, they carry with them years of unspoken resentment, cultural differences and memories they would rather leave behind. What begins as an uncomfortable journey gradually becomes an unexpected chance to rediscover each other — sometimes with humour and irony, sometimes with pain, and often with a raw, understated tenderness.
Featuring Filip Pławiak in the lead role, alongside acclaimed Bosnian actor Branko Đurić, best known internationally for his role in the Oscar-winning No Man’s Land, and acclaimed Iranian actress Sarina Farhadi, winner of the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival for her role in the Oscar-winning A Separation.
Sebastian Chondrokostas’s feature debut is a deeply personal Polish-Greek road movie about two men learning for the first time how to be a father and a son. Their journey also echoes the history of Greek refugees who came to Poland after the Greek Civil War in 1949, while the presence of a young Syrian refugee brings questions of displacement and migration into the present.
"It is a film that combines an intimate story with a distinctly European scope and could become an important milestone both in Filip Pławiak’s career and in contemporary Polish cinema.." — Viva
