A universal and timeless story about student couple madly in love with each other in a country overwhelmed by a rebellion of young people against authorities that want to take away their spiritual freedom, civil liberties and a sense of national identity.

Warsaw, March 1968. Students take to the streets protesting against the unlawful expulsion of their colleagues from university and the banned performance of romantic play „Dziady” staged at the National Theatre. Among the protesting youth are Hania and Janek, whose families are on both sides of the March barricade. In the midst of chaos and anxiety, lovers try to overcome adversity. Will their love survive?

Warsaw, March 1968. Hania (Vanessa Aleksander), a student of the State Higher School of Theatre in Warsaw, attends the theatrical premiere of “Dziady” by Adam Mickiewicz, a literary work that is an expression of the deepest patriotic feelings and the nation’s struggle against an invader. At the premiere, Hania meets Janek (Ignacy Liss), a student at the university of technology. Their meeting is the beginning of a great love, which is quickly put to the test when political unrest and the tumultuous 1968 protests weigh in on their lives, with their families on the opposite sides of the barricade. Students in Warsaw protest in defence of “Dziady”, which has been removed from the stage for political reasons. The protests culminate in a university rally, which is brutally pacified with Hania and Janek paying a high price. They are beaten up, arrested, and expelled from their universities in a harsh lesson of civic maturity for both of them. In the midst of chaos and anxiety the lovers try to overcome adversity, but political situation is forcing Hania’s family to make hard choices. When Hania’s father loses his job as a result of discrimination against citizens of Jewish origin, Hania’s family decides to emigrate while the daughter wants to stay.
